At no extra charge, moving companies provide basic compensation for damage/loss called release rate liability. With this option, the carrier's maximum liability is $0.60 per pound per article. For example, if a chair with a value of $350 and a weight of 20lbs is lost or damaged, the maximum settlement will be 20lbs. * $0.60 = $12.00.
Replacement Value Protection
Optional minimum coverage is availabe to ensure additional protection. The carrier's maximum liability is the lump sum declared on your shipment. For example, if a chair with a replacement value of $350 is irreplacably damaged or lost, you will be compensated at its replacement value of $350. The value of your shipment is based on $10,000 coverage per room, with a $20,000 minimum amount of coverage. You can increase the amount of coverage, but you cannot decrease the minimum.
